This design appears as 'Le Carre Etoile' in 'Exercises Methodiques de Travaux Manuels' by Jean Boogaerts, which was published in Belgium and France in 1890. The illustrations show how to produce many other decorative designs by combining multiple stars.

A cut version appears as 'Rosace Decorative' in 'Images a Plier', which was published by Librairie Larousse in Paris in 1932. A cut is made in step 4 to make it easy to make fold 5.
