| The Double Blintz Basic Form | |||||||
This page is being used to collect information about the groundform / base that I call the Double Blintz Basic Form, which is made by blintzing a square, turning the resulting half-size square over and blintzing it again. Please contact me if you know any of the information on this page is incorrect or if you have any other information that should be added. Thank you. The Double Blintz Basic Form is also known as Froebel's first groundform. ********** 1662 As far as I know the concept of multiply blintzing a square first appears in 'Escole parfaite des officiers de bouche', which was published by J Ribou in Paris in 1662. The Double Blintz Basic Form does not appear in this work as a design in its own right but as a stage in the folding of a 'Serviette pliee en forme de Croix de Sainct Esprit'.
********** 1880 In 'The Kindergarten Principle' by Mary J Lyschinska, which was published in London by Wm Isbister Ltd in 1880, the Double Blintz Basic Form is developed, in two different ways, into the 'Windmill Ground Form' (ie the Windmill Base). ********** 1882 In 'The Kindergarten Guide' by Maria Kraus Boelte and John Kraus, which was published by E. Steiger and Company in New York and by George Philip and Son in London, probably in 1882, the Double Blintz Basic Form is referred to as 'the single groundform'. ********** |
