Juguetes de Papel, c1930 | |||||||
'Juguetes de Papel' was booklet no 7 in the series 'Pasatiempos' published by Editorial Muntanola in Barcelona. The booklet is undated and I do not know of any evidence by which an accurate date of publication can be arrived at. I have temporarily assigned it a date of c1930 because, according to the Gran Encyclopedie Catalana for the Editorial Muntaņola, it did not survive long after this date. However, the booklet may have been published considerably earlier, possibly as early as c1920. The booklet was issued with two different covers, both of which are shown below. A full copy of the work is given at the foot of this page. My thanks to Juan Gimeno for providing me with a copy of this work. The introduction extolls the virtues of paperfolding in helping children 'consolidate the (mathematical) notions acquired at school' and in providing pupils ' with the agility of fingers, so effective in the arts'. Moreeover 'without any extraneous educational requirements he (ie the folder) acquires by himself the habit of being punctual and exact in all his duties'. ************ This work is mentioned in Gershon Legman's 'Bibliography of Paperfolding' which was published in 1952. Note that Legman does not give a publication date. **********
********** Analysis Pajaro Volador - The Flapping Bird The author is aware that the wings will flap but does not say how this is achieved. ********** El Abanico Japonese - Circular Pleated Fan Two sticks are used to make this fan so that it can be opened or closed as required. ********** La Tartana - The Wagon (compound design) ********** La Cometa - The Flyable Kite ********** La Pajarita - The Cocotte / Pajarita The instructions are not entirely clear but the design appears to be developed from a doubly blintzed square (or possibly a triply blintzed square). ********** El Rehilete - The Cut and Fold Windmill ********** La Flecha - The Paper Dart ********** La Mariposa - The Cigarette Paper Butterfly This simple butterfly is made from a cigarette paper and is light enough that it can be 'made to fly as far as desired, using a fan and a regular amount of skill'. ********** La Cajita - The Junk Box This is the Junk Box folded from a triply blintzed square. ********** El Seron - The Portfolio This is also folded from a triply blintzed square. ********** El Barquito - The Paper Boat ********** El Gorro - The Pyramidal Hat ********** El Cura This design is a version of Don Simon but lacking the flappable arms. ********** La Petaca - The Flask This is a two-part design. One part is folded smaller so that it fits inside the other. ********** La Petardo - The Paper Banger ********** El Paracaidas - The Paper Parachute ********** The Work
