Aus papier, gefaltet, gefalzt, geklebt, 1940 | |||||||
'Aus papier: gefaltet, gefalzt, geklebt' (Out of paper: folded, creased, glued) is a magazine style booklet published by Deutscher Verlag in Berlin in 1940. The work is no 20 in the series 'Bunte Ultra-Hefte fur Handarbeit und Mode' (Colourful booklets for handicraft and fashion). The work is undated but the date of publication is given in the list of banned books (see below). ********** This work is mentioned in Gershon Legman's 'Bibliography of Paperfolding': ********** Inter alia the work contains instructions for making models decorated with German military insignia (and in one case with a swastika). The work must therefore presumably predate the surrender of the German armies to the Allies in 1945. For this reason, the work appears on the list of books banned by the Allied governments in Germany during the occupation following World War 2 (see Alliierte Zensur im Nachkriegsdeutschland). (I have not been able to verify the origin of this list but have presumed that it is a copy of a genuine document.) My thanks to Edwin Corrie for drawing this to my attention. Section b is a blanket provision banning books containing 'construction plans for models of aircraft, warships and military vehicles'. Despite clearly falling within this blanket ban, the work is also listed individually. Edwin Corrie has discoivered that the book was also banned in the Soviet zone - see http://www.polunbi.de/bibliothek/1947-nslit.html#trans item no 134. ********** There are only two inside pages which contain material related to paperfolding. These are given in full at the foot of this page. In several places the text on these pages refers to 'ultra-handcrafted pattern H7263' which appears to be a separate publication containing the folding instructions for the designs. I have not seen a copy of this. The inside front cover contains a paragraph 'What do we need for folding, glueing, cutting?' which recommends using 'ein Falzbein' (a bone folder to set the sharp creases in'. ********** ********** Analysis Paper Folds Dampfer (Steamer) - The Battleship (Cut) ********** Ente mit Jungen (Duck with Ducklings) - a variation of The Duck ********** Korbchen - Basket ********** Vase ********** Salzfaßchen- The Saltcellar ********** Springbrunnen - Fountain ********** Napkin Folds ********** ********** Selected Pages ********** |
