In 'The Kindergarten Guide' by Maria Kraus Boelte and John Kraus, which was published by E. Steiger and Company in New York and by George Philip and Son in London, probably in 1882, the Windmill Base is referred to as 'the table-cloth groundform' and made by collapsing each corner of the Tablecloth into a flat square.

The Windmill Base is pictured in 'Cours de Travail Manuel (Pour les Garcons) - Premiere Partie - Cours Elementaire' by A Planty, which was published by Gedalge Jeune in Paris in 1887.
