As far as I know this design first appears, as 'La Boite Japonaise', in the 8th November 1902 issue of the French children's magazine 'Mon Journal'.

The same design, under the same name, appears in 'Les Petits Secrets Amusants' by Alber-Graves, which was published by Librairie Hachette in Paris in 1908.

The design also appears in an article explaining how to fold 'La Bonbonierre Japonaise'.article, written by the same author, in 'La Nature' of 2847 of 15th December 1930.
