As far as I know the 'Hand Basket', which is developed from the Preliminary Fold, first appears in 'Paper Magic' by Robert Harbin, which was published by Oldbourne in London in 1956

1968

This design also appears, as 'Basket or Japanese Box with Handle', in 'Teach Yourself Origami: The Art of Paperfolding' by Robert Harbin, which was published by The English Universities Press in 1968.
