Enganos a Ojos Vistas, Y Diversion de Trabajos by Pablo Minguet E Irol

The edition of 'Enganos a Ojos Vistas, Y Diversion de Trabajos' by Pablo Minguet E Irol from which the information on this page has been taken was published by Pedro Joseph Alonso y Padilla in Madrid in 1733. This version (which I will call the 1733 Madrid version) has long been thought of as the first edition of the work.

However, according to 'Gibeciere' of Summer 2009, there is another, shorter, and more ornate, edition of the work, also dated 1733, and held in the collection of the National Library of Scotland, which does not include all the material found in the 1733 Madrid version, including the section about 'How to change a blue ribbon into a red one' using the Buddha Papers (see below). I have not seen this second version, but from the information given in 'Gibeciere' there does not seem to be any definitive way to decide which of these two editions is the earlier.

This page is based on the 1733 Madrid version of the work, a full copy of which can be accessed online here.

While it is not completely clear how the instructions / illustrations shown here are to be translated / interpreted, I believe it is most likely that they are intended to be for the How to make a Chain from a Playing Card effect.
