Paperfolding in prints by Utagawa Kuniyoshi
Utagawa Kuniyoshi was a Japanese print designer. He was born in 1798 and died in 1861.

This print, which is said to date from 1840, shows a mother inflating a crane while her child sits beside her holding another. A paper boat lies nearby on the floor. The small pieces of paper lying near the scissors are anachronistic since neither design requires cuts.

This print, dated c1854, shows a woman holding a Kabuto out of reach of her child.
