This
page is being used to collect information about the
history of the origami design known as the Urn. Please
contact me if you know any of this information is
incorrect or if you have any other information that
should be added. Thank you. The Urn is closely related to the Long Lantern. ********** 1908 As far as know this design first appears in 'Origami zusetsu' (Illustrated Origami) by Sano Shozo, which was published in Tokyo in 1908. ********** 1951 Diagrams for a version of the Urn which has a serrated cut top edge, appear in 'Origami: Folding Paper for Children' by Claude Sarasas, which was first published by Kodansha in Tokyo in 1951. ********** 1964 A decorated version of the design, called 'Rabbit Vase' appears in 'Secrets of Origami', by Robert Harbin, which was published by Oldbourne Book Company in London in 1964. It is said to have been obtained by John M Nordquist from the Frederick Starr collection. ********** |
