This
page is being used to record information about the
history of the design known as the Novelty Purse. Please
contact me if you know any of this information is
incorrect or if you have any other information that
should be added. Thank you. ********** In Japan (and in books by Japanese authors) 1944 As far as I know this design first appears in 'Origami Shuko' by Isao Honda, which was published in 1944. ********** The design also appears: 1964 As 'Tortoise-Shell', in 'Noshi - Classic Origami in Japan' by Isao Honda, which was published by Japan Publications Trading Company in 1964. No information as to its origin is given. ********** 1965 The same design appears again, as 'Flower Model' in 'The World of Origami' by Isao Honda, which was published, in English, by Japan Publications Trading Company in 1965. Again no information as to its origin is given. ********** In Europe and the Americas 1964 The same design appears in 'Secrets of Origami' by Robert Harbin, which was published by the Olbourne Book Company in London in 1964. The text states: 'Origin: Japan.' In the 1971 Octopus Books edition the text has been altered to read 'Origin: Japan. Akira Yoshijawa.' (sic). I do not know what the evidence for attributing the design to Akira Yoshizawa is. ********** |
