1845

A design for a chicken made from the irregular slit octagon base, appears in the 'Kan No Mado', which is usually dated to 1845.

1914

A design for a 'Chicken' developed from a bird base appears in 'Zhe zhi tu shuo' (Illustrated Paperfolding), compiled by Gui Shaolie, which was published by the Commercial Press in Shanghai in Ming guo 3 (1914).

A design for a Rooster, 'El gallo', can be found in 'El Mundo de Papel' by Dr Nemesio Montero, which was published by G Miranda in Edicions Infancia in Valladolid in 1939.

This Rooster and Chick were pictured, but not diagrammed, in 'Origami to Kirinuki' by Saburo Ueda, which was published by Kokkado in Tokyo, most probably in 1951.

Designs for a 'Hen' and 'Rooster' appear in 'Happy Origami: Whale Book' by Tatsuo Miyawaki, which was published by Biken-Sha in 1960.

The same design appears as 'Rooster' in 'Origami Land: Rooster Book' by Tatsuo Miyawaki, which was published by Biken-Sha in matsuyama, Japan in 1967.

Designs for a 'Gallina' (hen) (cut) and 'Gallo' (rooster) appear in (the Spanish version of) 'Happy Origami: Swallow Book' by Tatsuo Miyawaki, which was published by Biken-Sha in 1960. The 'Gallo' design is not cut but the comb is cut from a separate piece of paper and glued in place.

A Chicken made from a dollar bill, and attributed to John M Nordquist, appears in 'Folding Money, Volume Two' edited by Samuel Randlett, which was published by Magic Inc of Chicago in 1968.
