Course of Paper-Plaiting or Mat-Weaving by Eleonore Heerwart, 1894

'Course of Paper-Plaiting or Mat-Weaving' by Eleonore Heerwart was published by Charles and Dible in London in 1894. The work is not dated on the title page, but the date of 1894 appears at the end of the author's Introduction.

As the title suggests, the vast majority of the work is concerned with Frame Weaving, but there are two plates of Free Weaving and Fold, Slit and Fold Chevron designs and some incidental mentions of these techniques in the text. No information about the origin or development of either technique or type of design is given.

Note that the author refers to many of these designs as 'bookmarks'.

The author notes that the circle is 'well known in German Kindergartens'.

The author claims that the introduction of the use of curved cuts in a Fold, Slit and Fold Chevron design is her original idea.

A full copy of the work can be accessed online here.
