Article in Print magazine, July / August 1958

This article is largely about the design work of Akira Yoshizawa (whose name is mispelled throughout as Yoshezama). It contains photos of him and some of his designs, but also contains a set of diagrams for The Flapping Bird (called Traditional Japanese Flapping Bird here). The information for this article is likely to have come from Lillian Oppenheimer (although all the inaccuracies, of which there are many, should not necessarily be laid at her door).

It is worth noting that the article states:

The article begins with a geographical / historical summary:

(Papier Multiforme is a name for Troublewit. Neither are easily characterised as 'origami'.)

Then claims that:

(This is the only mention of Utrillo that I have seen in this context. I can find no evidence to back up the assertion that he was a paperfolder. Nor is there any evidence that Leonardo or Houdini were paperfolders in the sense intended here.)

The article mentions Robert Neale (and also mispells his name);

**********

The main bulk of the article is about Lillian Oppenheimer and Akira Yoshizawa.

(The article claims that Yoshizawa's design 'will be exhibited at Cooper Union in the Fall'. In fact the exhibition did not take place until the Summer of 1959.

The article mentions exhibitions in 'Paris and Brussels in June'. I am not aware that these exhibitions ever took place.

I know of no evidence that chapters of the International Paper Folding Society were ever formed in the United States or Europe.)
