The information on this page is taken from the 1858 Second Edition but I believe that the contents of the two editions as regards Paper Folding and Paper Cutting were identical.
The Prefaces to both the First and Second Editions are reproduced at the foot of this page and contain interesting information about the initial development of Kindergarten education in England.

Unfortunately there are no illustrations of the forms of 'box, basket, ship, boat, stars' mentioned here and consequently the designs cannot be identified.
This section describes how to fold a square of paper into an eight layered right angle isosceles triangle and gives examples of cuts that can be made into this form. When unfolded these shapes would then have 8-fold symmetry.
